Introducing...

Kambri Eve Morris

I have a sleeping baby for a few more minutes so I thought I would do a quick post. Kambri was born eleven minutes into Labor Day 09/06/2010. She weighed 7 lbs 15 oz and was 20 inches long. She came out a beautiful newborn (we were prepared for the worst, haha). I just have never seen many cute newborn babies. She has a lot of black hair, blue eyes, her dad's chin and my nose.

Here is the quick labor story for anyone who is interested. If not, skip to below as pictures will follow :).

The day before my due date I woke up with tons of energy! I got up and decided I wanted to go to the mall. Wallflowers were on sale and I needed some that smelled like Autumn- ie caramel apple, pumpkin, etc. mmmm...

Justin was going to go work at the temple so he convinced my sisters to 'watch' me as I could very well go into labor at any time. We went to the mall and I waddled around, ate pretzels, bought wallflowers, and waited for labor to begin. Kali even came hoping she would go into labor too. No such luck for her until later in the week.

My labor started at 2:00 that next morning. I knew that they were the real contractions (even though I'd never had any until that point) because they hurt! It was as if I was having one of the more painful periods in my life....and I've only had one or two that felt that yucky. Justin was in the other room on his computer until about 3. When he came in I let him know that it was probably beginning. He didn't get any sleep that night, but it was his own fault for not going to bed earlier. My contractions stayed at 5 minutes apart the whole night. At about 5 in the morning I started wondering if my water had broken a little. It just seemed awfully wet. More so than was normal. We called the hospital at 7 and asked how long we should wait. The nurse was not particularly helpful as her response was, "If you water was broken there would be a gush." "It's best if you wait until your contractions are two minutes apart, you're bleeding, and you can't talk through them." "Whoa. That sounds horrible," were my thoughts. So we started packing thinking we were in for a pretty long and painful day. However, the "gush" came at around 9 AM. Thank goodness! We called back and it was a completely different story. "Come in as soon as you can, We'll see you soon." "Yes!" I was on the 'special' list now. Haha. I took the time to take a shower which made Justin extremely antsy, as if I was going to deliver in there or something :P. We still made it to the hospital pretty early, by about 10. They checked me in, and seeing I was only dilated to 1.5 cm and my contractions had pretty much stopped they started me on Pitocin and told me we were probably in for an all day thing.

So I turned on Gilmore Girls and waited for the pain to begin again, because I couldn't have an epidural til I was at least 3-4 cm. Oh boy was that part awful. I kept thinking "this is it for me. No more children after this." I am not a fan of any sort of pain, yuck. Luckily it only took just a couple of hours to get to a three.

Then came the next stage. The epidural. We were a little bit worried about this part because of my fused spine. But the anesthesiologist was really good and put the epidural in just below my scar. He also did it during a contraction so I could care less what was going on back there. Awe sweet relief. No pain. No feeling whatsoever. We watched movies and waited. It was almost boring, except they thought I was bleeding a little too much and they had to keep moving me to keep the baby's heart rate up during contractions. But other than that I thought, "Eh, I might could do this a few more times...." It only took a few hours and I was dilated to a 7.5.

Then came 8. And 8. And 8 again. 8 for the next 7 or so hours. They started talking about a c-section if I didn't make any progress. Crap. To get this far and then get a c-section? I had until 11 PM.

At 11 PM I was an 8.5. Phew! They let me continue. At 11:30 I was a 10 and ready to push. At this point I was weak from lack of sleep and food and starting to feel really nauseous. Pushing made it 10 times worse. Yuck. I couldn't believe how much energy they wanted me to expend. I swear I wasn't doing it right, but she started to come. It took 45 minutes and she was out. The doctor made Justin cut the umbilical cord. He seriously didn't want to but the doctor was pretty stern about it, haha. At this point I threw up.

But now it's over and she's here and beautiful. We decided on the middle name Eve because she is what we call a 'temple baby' and we wanted her to remember that :)
