We took a Plane to Maui

Kali has been in Maui for the summer. What a great excuse to go visit!

Weds 7/13- Left for the airport. Had to say goodbye to Justin for a whole week! Not sure if we've been apart that long for the last four years.

Kambri did well on the plane and only ended up screaming once... when she was woken up from her deep sleep for the landing. It took a few minutes to calm her down, which did not make the people around us happy. We had dozens of small toys to keep her busy = good idea.

After what seemed like forever to get our rental car, headed to Kali's condo to stay the night.

Thurs 7/14-

Woke Kali up at 4 AM Hawaii time.

Headed to the beach. Oh yeah.

Well, actually we went to the ABC store first. My mom's favorite.

The Babies shared a stroller. They did pretty well this first time.

Then we headed to the beach. Oh yeah.

Where Kambri thoroughly enjoyed the sand.

And just to make sure we really were sunburned we went to the condo pool afterward. Yay!

Fri 7/15- Went to Lahaina. Walked around the shops. Ate at the Hard Rock Cafe. Saw a ginormous Banyan Tree.

Sat 7/16- Bummed around all day. Played at the pool. Ate fish tacos, Yum. Went to the beach for the sunset. Helped Dextin chase his favorite thing. Birds.

Sun 7/17- Took the long windey road to Hana. Did a beautiful 2 mile hike through bamboo forests and waterfalls, where I thought I might die...I'm just not a true hiker. stumbled back to the car. Stopped at a fruitstand on the way to the black sand beach. Headed to the timeshare condo. Thanks again Kali for letting us stay with you those first few days!

Just a piece of the road to Hana.

The drive was beautiful! It was all coast and rainforest.

Yes, this was next to the road.

Started our hike. Justin tried to carry both babies, but Kambri would have none of it.

Took a second to look at the seven sacred pools.

Second giant banyan tree. Not sure why but the 'Circle of Life' started playing in my head here.

Pretending I carried Kambri. I could barely get myself up there. My mom and Kali carried her most of the way.

The bamboo forest.

They sounded like windchimes when they swayed.

Kambri was fascinated by the bamboo.

The beautiful end of the hike.

I got the little guy down there on purpose so you could see how big it was.

To the right of the black sand beach.

It was actually a black pebble beach.

There was a little cavern right off of the beach. You almost had to crawl to get in. So coooool!

The sunset on the drive back.

Mon 7/18- Went snorkeling! At Mckenna's Beach- It was perfect. We saw some beautiful fish. And guess what? Swam with my very first sea turtle!!! He was about four feet long. I followed him for quite a while. Best part of the trip.

Kambri chilled while waiting for me.

We stopped at one of the beaches off the hotel on the way home.

Where we proceeded to get very dirty.

I mean really dirty.

Worse than this.

But I didn't get a picture of it. Because the baby decided that looking like a sand monster with sand all over in the eyes was not as fun as she first imagined...and cleaning her up came first before a photo shoot. Though I really wanted that picture....

That night we stayed at the condo and made kokui bracelets and palm leave crafts down by the pool.

Tues 7/19- Went to Paia. Cute little town. We had the yummiest pizza there, and icecream too now that I think of it. The babies were tired of sharing a stroller, or sharing almost anything by this time. This resulted in several tantrums, a strong bite on Kambri's arm from Dextin, and a handful of soggy cookie in Dextin's hair from Kambri. There was also a condo bbq in the evening. Played in the condo's pool and watched movies inside after.

Waiting for the pizza. Kambri decided to try the lemon off of my mango lemonade. She actually didn't mind it. Made her daddy proud.

Kambri stuffing her mouth with fresh pineapple

Weds 7/20- Went to baby beach in the morning and bummed around for the rest of the day waiting for our plane which left at 8:00 that night. It's nice to do nothing once in a while.

The plane ride back was during the night. Kambri did well and slept for both plane rides. She was up for our layover and pretty kranky because it was technically 5:00 in the morning to about 8. Though, even at her krankiest people just loved her.

Such a fun trip!!! Sad to say goodbye, but Kali will be back in two weeks for Stef's wedding, so it's not too long.

We love Hawaii!

A 10 Month Old

I realize some of you only check this because of a certain cute baby so I thought I'd let you know what she's up to.

At 10 Months Kambri:

~ Is a speedy crawler
~ Has made it up the stairs several times, once without supervision, whoops!
~ Stands on everything and anything, if it's somewhat stable she will use it. Hands, walls, balls, small objects, anything and everything.
~ Says 'mama' 'dada' and 'yum'. There might be other meanings among the babbling, I'm just not good enough at baby talk yet to decipher them.
~ Knows many words, including bottle, as that will always get some whining when she's hungry. We're going to see if sign language will help with the communication between us.
~ Sleeps from about 9 to about 7:30-8. Our own fault that she doesn't go down earlier. Kids bedtimes are sooo early!
~ Eats at least 3 baby food jars a day. Loves fruit. Likes vegetables okay. Will not eat the meat ones that smell like dog food.
~ Knows when she is doing something she shouldn't be. She always looks back with a little smile first to see what our reaction will be.
~ Has a Happy scream- She just gets so excited.
~ Does not like grass.
~ Loves to stand next to furniture and shake it. Is very excited when things fall down. Brackets have been purchased.
~ Is going to be my rollercoaster buddy. She loves spinning, being thrown in the air, etc.
~ Likes our puppies. Is rather afraid of the 'big' dogs. Yells and screams when they get close....which I have to admit is kind of funny.
~ Loves soft blankies, or maybe just soft anything.
~ Loves books.
~ Her favorite things are electronics: phones, remotes, and most especially laptops. Justin has even had to repair a few of his keyboard buttons which were swiftly removed by small chubby fingers on different occasions. She stole the 'shift' key and the number '3' hmm...
~ Loves making messes and pulling things apart. We haven't got through to her with the 'clean up' or 'put back together' yet.
~ Is rather shy around people she doesn't know. Though it's better if I'm not in the room.
~ Claps her hands
~ Loves Peek-a-boo
~ Likes being held, but will only be cuddled if she's tired.
~Throws the funniest little temper tantrums if something is taken away. Hopefully they don't get worse....knock on wood.
~ Hates getting dressed. I have to chase her down every.single.time.
~Laughs so hard when she is being tickled.
~ Is coming down the hallway right now to find me... Talking to herself as she comes ;)

She really is fun, and I am enjoying every new thing she learns!

P.S. We are headed to Hawaii tomorrow! For a whole week! Just Kambri and I, we are sad that we are leaving Justin "da-da" behind :(. He does have several projects to keep him busy though, so hopefully it won't be too lonely.

Genius

I can't believe this is the first time I've ran across such an easy awesome idea.

I have a pair of dollar flip flops from Old Navy. I also have a pair of dogs who thought that the straps were chew toys. I'm not sure why I even kept them, the one strap would surely have fallen off if I'd tried to wear them around.

Then I found this tutorial.

So, easy! All you do is cut off the original straps and thread fabric through. L.O.V.E. that idea! They look much more expensive than a dollar now, and it took a total of five minutes and a small piece of fabric. I also made a couple of matching flowers clips to add on if I want a bit more fun.

Imagine all the possibilities with dollar sandals and scraps of fabric!

My Space

We have an extra bedroom that was Justin's office. However, he got a laptop and could usually be found downstairs. So about two months ago I claimed it.

I had a vision. My cricut is pink and Justin has a blue antique chair that has no other home except for that room. So I combined the two colors and found some pictures I wanted to use. Here was some of my inspiration...

I was so excited! I had Justin buy a couple of pieces of wood and cut them down to 10x10. He cut me about 12 plus one larger piece of wood. My dad happens to be a printer so he printed me some of the above pictures in a 10x10 size. I painted and sanded the wood and modge podged the pictures on the front. LOVE them. And they were extremely cheap since the wood was the only thing purchased.

I hung three of them in a row on either side of the window (6 total on that wall)

Then I took the larger piece of wood and painted it the same color as the sides of the picture blocks I just made. I had Justin pick up a pipe clamp from Home Depot and stuck a blue mason jar to the wood. (Btw I think I found a great way to turn mason jars blue, we may be attempting it for Stef's wedding). Add some flowers that are half off from hobby lobby, and a vinyl cutout from the cricut, and ta-da, this wall is complete.

Yes, there are two tiny windows in this room...strange I know.

Turned to the wall above the chair. Found a wedding picture that had some pink and blue so I modge podged it onto a block of wood as well. Added another quote with my cricut, and added some scrapbook paper to girlify the clock, haha!

We also have a futon in this room (it's technically the guest room), so pillows were next on the list. I found and used some awesome tutorials.

First up, this bad boy.

He can be found here. Love the ruffles, I think I will love them even more when I attempt to re-do our bedroom and use a similar fabric as the tutorial.

Second was this lovely lady. This was done using striped fabric. Found here. my Favorite!

Next I took on this guy. More of a challenge, but also more of a reward.

Found Here. The one behind it is not complete (I need a new zipper and my motivation is lacking, but someday will look like This.)

I also made a few small pillows. One for my chair. No tutorial for this one, I just cut, sewed, adding batting, and hand sewed the jewel on (which by the way I am no good at, how in the world do you hand sew?!?)

And of course the messy desk area where most of the work gets done...

Someday I will re-finish this desk. Until then it will be ugly, and not seen :).

I had a hard time capturing good pictures of the whole room, the light was not cooperating. But you get the idea, I hope you liked it! It is now my haven.

Fireworks

Is anyone else happy that they changed the law for fireworks? Oh my, it was like a panorama of awesomeness last night. Better than any fireworks show I've been to. Kambri was mesmerized too. It was all so pretty. I have a feeling the 4th is going to be a bit more exciting now.

First Homeade Dress

Kambri didn't really have any patriotic clothes today to wear to Church, and our Church doesn't start until 1 so I took a few hours this morning and made something really simple.

I had a 2 dollar white tanktop from Walmart that I had already added a rosette and some quick ruffles to. But I didn't love it.

Then I found this easy idea.

Here's what we got after about an hour and a half.

I don't think it turned out too bad. There are still some things I would change, but it works.

Now it's time to go get it smothered in that smoky campfire bbq smell, mmm.

Happy 4th of July!

Update-I have since trimmed that ruffle at the top down quite a bit and I like it much better! It blends a little more and isn't quite so overpowering :)
